Majority of American Adults Rely on Internet for Health Information
In that an estimated 74% of adults in the U.S. use the Internet, The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) collected data on the use of health information technologies (HIT), or applications of information processing via computes that access, retrieve, store, or share health care information.
Soccer Player Exercise
Soccer Slims Players While Improving Heart Health
In that the sport of soccer (known as football outside the US) increases one¡¯s pulse for a prolonged duration while exercising the legs and arms with intense actions such as sprints, turns, kicks, and tackles, the sport provides a combination of cardio and strength training. Peter Krustrup, from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), and colleagues found that inactive men with high blood pressure who engage in three months of soccer practice twice weekly reduced their blood pressure
Mediterranean Salad Diet
Mediterranean Diet May Help Avert Damage of Silent Strokes
The Mediterranean Diet is characterized by high daily intakes of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, a restricted consumption of red meat, low to moderate intakes of dairy products, fish, and poultry, and liberal use of use of olive oil. Nikolas Scarmeas, from Columbia University Medical Center (New York, USA), and colleagues studied 712 adults living in New York, analyzing their diets and categorizing on how closely they followed a Mediterranean diet.
Dipnarine Maharaj
Who¡¯s Who in Anti-Aging
and Regenerative Medicine
Week of February 25, 2010
Dipnarine Maharaj, M.D.
Dr. Dipnarine Maharaj is the founder and Medical Director of the South Florida Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant Institute, one of the few completely outpatient bone marrow/stem cell transplant facilities in the United States. He was also involved in the establishment of bone marrow/ stem cell transplant programs at the University of Miami and for other communities in Florida. He has been involved with clinical research studies using stem cells in the areas of cardiac regeneration, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer treatments. Most recently, he has secured an Investigator-initiated IND from the FDA to study a novel treatment of solid tumors using only healthy white blood cells.
Dr. Maharaj co-chairs the Stem Cell Symposium, presenting the latest principles and practice protocols in stem cell therapeutics. Register for the Stem Cell Symposium, taking place in conjunction with the 2010 Session of the Annual World Congress on Anti-Aging Medicine & Regenerative Biomedical Technologies .
IQ Woman Longevity
IQ As a Longevity Factor
An observational study in which 1,145 men and women participated suggests that mental acumen may be linked to how long one may live. G. David Batty, from the University of Glasgow (Scotland), and colleagues analyzed data compiled in the West of Scotland Twenty-07 study, to compare the strength of the association between intelligence quotient (IQ) and cardiovascular disease mortality with the predictive power for established risk factors.
Vitamin D Vitamins
Increased Vitamin D Levels May Reduce Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes
Previous studies have suggested a potential association between abnormal vitamin D levels and cardiometabolic disorders including heart disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Johanna Parker, from University of Warwick (United Kingdom), and colleagues conducted a systematic literature review of studies examining vitamin D (25-hydroxy vitamin D [25OHD] as an indicator of vitamin D status) and cardiometabolic disorders.

Stem Cells
Stem Cells and Bone Marrow Transplants   Dipnarine Maharaj, MD, PhD
Stem cell therapeutics is the leading biomedical technology in the rapidly emerging field of regenerative medicine, a medical field in which science assists the human capacity to heal various tissues and organs. VIEW THIS VIDEO, excerpted from a recent scientific presentation by Dr. Dipnarine Maharaj, MD, PhD, founder and Medical Director of the South Florida Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant Institute, one of the few completely outpatient bone marrow/stem cell transplant facilities in the United States. He remarks that: "The harder I work and the more dedicated my care, the closer we all get to beating cancer. The constant strides in science, research and technology have given new hope to patients who, as recently as ten years ago, may have had none. The treatments are getting more effective, the success rates are getting higher, and it¡¯s because doctors like me simply refuse to rest."
Chromosomes Mechanisims of Aging
First Genetic Variant Linked to Biological Aging in Humans Is Identified
For the first time, a team of scientists has identified definitive genetic variants associated with biological aging in humans. Tim Spector, from Kings College London (United Kingdom), and colleagues from the University of Leicester (United Kingdom) and University of Groningen (The Netherlands) studied telomeres, the endcaps on chromosomes and the shortening of which is considered a marker of biological aging.
