hikerss Demographics
Longevity Continues to Climb Steadily
Today, residents of developed nations around the world now live in good health as much as a decade longer than their parents did. James Vaupel, from Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (Germany), suggests that this phenomenon is because they are staying healthy to a more advanced age.
weight loss Weight and Obesity
Prebiotics May Help Manage Metabolic Diseases
In that overweight/obesity can change the composition and balance of microorganisms in the gut, Nathalie M. Delzenne, from Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium), and colleagues assessed how specific nutrients, such as prebiotics, may be able to induce beneficial changes in gut microbiota and thereby help to manage obesity and related disorders.
Cheesess Vitamins
Vitamin K May Slash Cancer Risk
Previous studies have elucidated benefits of vitamin K2, most notably in promoting bone and cardiovascular health. Jakob Linseisen, from the German Research Centre for Environmental Health (Germany), and colleagues studied 24,340 subjects, ages 35 to 64 years, enrolled in the EPIC-Heidelberg study.
Orange Juice Diet
Orange Juice Neutralizes Inflammation Prompted by Fast Foods
Fast-food meals are typified by high contents of fat and/or carbohydrates, with some previous studies suggesting that such foods promote the inflammatory process in cells and tissues. Paresh Dandona, from State University of New York at Buffalo (New York, USA), and colleagues have identified two antioxidant compounds present in orange juice, naringenin and hesperidin, that appear to counteract the pro-inflammatory effects of fast foods.
Flax Seed Cardio-Vascular
Flaxseed Slashes Cholesterol Levels
A good source of omega-3 fatty acids, flaxseed is high in ecoisolariciresinol diglucoside, a type of lignan, an antioxidant plant compound. Suzanne Hendrich, from Iowa State University, and colleagues enrolled 90 men and women, suffering from elevated cholesterol but otherwise healthy, in a twelve-week long study.

Across a diverse array of medical specialties ranging from weight management to diabetes, chronic fatigue to cancer, cardiovascular disease to neurological disorders, over 90 world-renowned speakers emphasized the concept of a multi-modal integrative approach to anti-aging therapeutics, engaging nutritional interventions, hormone therapies, lifestyle and behavioral modifications, and more.
Thinking Brain and Mental Performance
Inflammatory Protein Linked to Difficulties with Thinking Skills
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of inflammation and vascular disease that has been associated with an increased risk of dementia. Heike Wersching, from University of Muenster (Germany), and colleagues studied 447 men and women, average age 63 years, without stroke or dementia.

Natural hormone therapy for menopause
Menopausal women are deficient in estrogen, progesterone, and frequently in testosterone and DHEA. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in the United States has generally consisted of one or two agents, typically equine estrogen and medroxyprogesterone, with increased risk of heart attack, stroke, dementia, and breast cancer [WHI trials]. Bio-identical hormones [chemically endogenous hormones] have gained popularity and can be mixed according to physician's orders by compounding pharmacists in the United States.
