금연과 운동의 중요성이 날마다 강조되고 있지만 금연과 운동을 꼭 해야 함을 밝히는 연구결과가 미국 비뇨기협회 연례회의에서 보고됐다. 여성이 담배를 끊으면 배뇨활동이 활발해져 화장실에서 편해지고 남성이 꾸준히 운동하면 성기능이 좋아져 남녀의 침대생활이 행복해진다는 것. 미국비뇨기협회 연례회의에서는 18~79세 여성 2,000명을 대상으로 이들의 흡연과 배뇨 건강의 상관관계를 조사한 결과가 발표됐다. 이들이 먹고 있는 약과 생활습관을 함께 고려한 결과 과거에 흡연을 했거나 현재 담배를 피우는 사람은 오줌을 잘 참지 못하고 배뇨를 급하게 볼 확률이 다른 사람보다 1.8~2.7배였다. 또 화장실에 자주 가는 확률이 1.7~3.0배였다.
다른 연구는 재향군인연구센터가 건강한 남성 178명을 대상으로 나이 인종 운동회수 성기능 등을 조사한 결과 운동을 자주 하는 남성일수록 성기능이 더 좋았다.
미국비뇨기협회 앤서티 스미스 대변인은 “이번 발표된 두 연구는 금연과 운동을 실천하는 데 어려움을 겪는 사람들의 의지를 다지는 데 도움이 될 것”이라고 설명했다.
이 두 연구결과는 미국 샌프란시스코에서 열린 미국비뇨기협회(American Urological Association) 연례회의에서 31일 발표됐고 미국 건강뉴스 웹진 헬스데이 등이 31일 보도됐다.
