Green Tea
Brain Health
Green Tea May Exert Protective Effect for Cognitive Health
Previous research has suggested that the antioxidant compounds (polyphenols) present in green tea possess neuroprotective properties, due to their capacity to counter oxidative stress induced by free radicals. As well, other studies have found green tea polyphenols effective in enhancing cognition in laboratory animal models of cognitive impairment.
Tomato Functional Foods
Tomato Compound Combats Vascular Diseases
Tomato is one of the most common crops worldwide, and numerous previous studies document that the fruit contains many beneficial compounds that improve abnormalities of lipid metabolism. Teruo Kawada, from Kyoto University (Japan), and colleagues explored the role of tomato compounds in affecting dyslipidemia, a condition which is caused by an abnormal amount of lipids, such as cholesterol or fat, in the bloodstream.
Omega3 Cardio-Vascular
Omega-3s Help to Boost Heart Function
In that previous studies have linked consumption of omega-3 fatty acids found abundantly in fatty fish such as wild salmon, with beneficial effects for heart health, Northwestern University (Illinois, UJSA) researchers report that omega-3 fatty acid supplements improve heart function and exercise capacity among patients with heart failure in whom the condition has been controlled.
Walking Exercise
Walking May Prevent or Delay Diabetes
Those who walk more not only promote their overall physical and mental wellness, but may prevent or delay the onset of diabetes as well. Terry Dwyer, from the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (Australia), and colleagues investigated the relationship between daily step count with both adiposity and insulin sensitivity.
Music Mental Health
Music Evokes Emotion
Music maintains a significant role across human society, but the biochemical basis underlying the universal emotional response to listening to music has remained elusive. Robert Zattore, from McGill University (Canada), and colleagues have found that the experience of listening to music releases dopamine, a pleasure-promoting neurotransmitter in the brain.
