Vitamin D Boosts Mental Agility
In that a growing body of evidence suggests a broad range of health benefits of Vitamin D, Katherine Tucker, from Tufts University (Massachusetts, USA), and colleagues studied the association between blood levels of Vitamin D (measured as 25-hydroxyvitamin D, or 25(OH)D) and cognitive function. The team studied more than 1,000 men and women, ages 65 to 99 years, receiving home care, assessing vitamin D blood levels and conducting neuropsychological tests.

Lifelong Physical Activity Helps to Retain Cognitive Skills
Previous research has suggested that people who are physically active in mid- and late life are at lower risks of developing dementia and other forms of cognitive impairment as they age. Laura Middleton, from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Ontario, Canada), and colleagues studied 9,344 women residing in 4 US states, to assess the impact of physical activity at different life stages on cognitive skills.

Resveratrol May Reduce Risks of Blindness
Resveratrol is a naturally occurring compound that is produced in a variety of plants, found in particularly high levels in grape skin, and previous studies suggest that resveratrol may decrease the effects of aging and act as an anti-cancer agent through the function of specific proteins known as sirtuin family proteins.
