The Effect of Miso Facial Acupuncture on Facial Reduction and Improvement of
Skin Condition

Abstract
Objective :
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Miso
facial acupuncture on facial reduction and improvement of skin condition.
Method :From March to May 2012, 20 women in their twentiest of orties
with no facial diseases were recruited. Miso facial acupuncture was
performed on the both side of their face twice a week,total seven times.
The3D face photograph so feachparticipantwerechecked5times;before
treatment,after1sttreatment,4thtreatment,7thtreatmentand10daysfrom
thelasttreatmentusing RS-400FL(MorpheusCo.Korea)andREAL FACE.
Thesurfacedistancesofthe4linesonthefaceweremeasuredusingRenai
MEF program.Theimprovementofskinconditionwasevaluatedbywater
content,TransEpidermalWaterLoss(TEWL),ErythemaIndex andMelanin
Index using MPA 5.They were checked 4 times ;beforetreatment,4th
treatment,7th treatmentand after10 days from the lasttreatment.We
analyzed data using Paired t-test(P<0.05) and Wilcoxon signed rank
test(P<0.05).
Result :One case was dropped outdue to pain and edema after 4th

treatment.Thesurfacedistancesofthe4lineson faceweresignificantly
reduced and maintained after10 days from lasttreatment.Watercontent
wassignificantlyincreasedandmaintainedafter10daysfrom lasttreatment.
TEWL was significantly decreased. Erythema Index was significantly
decreasedfrom the3rdevaluations.MelaninIndexwasslightdecreasedwith
nosignificanceatthe2ndevaluations.
Conclusion :Theseresultsshow thatMisofacialacupuncturecan reduce
sizesofthefaceandimproveskinconditionsuchaswatercontent,TEWL
andErythemaIndexexceptMelaninIndex.
